Disentis is located in the Surselva District, in the heart of Switzerland, at the source of the Rhine.
Disentis is accessible from various sides. In summer, the Oberalp Pass, the Lukmanier Pass and the cantonal road from Chur all lead to Disentis.
Disentis is two hours drive from Zurich. To reach Lucerne, you need about an hour. You are also in Ticino in an hour, in a completely different climate zone.

If you travel by train via Chur to Disentis, then you will cross the Rhine Gorge from Reichenau to Ilanz. During this half hour you should put away your laptop and mobile phone and drink in the view from the window. The view of world cultural heritage site Ruinaulta from the train is unique and breathtakingly beautiful!
